What will I do in orchestra in sixth grade?

Perform at THREE group concerts--one in September, another in December and one in May

Perform (and have fun) at the Sandy Lake Amusement Park

Compete in a solo competition and be awarded a medal for your hard work! (optional)

Go on a spring trip & have fun at Six Flags or Hurricane Harbor

Be a part of cool social events:  pizza parties, gift exchanges, skating parties, laser tag, ice cream socials, movie nights, putt-putt and go-car events, trips to see the Dallas Symphony.

What happens after sixth grade?

Most orchestra students (over 95%!) stay in orchestra after their first year.  They will be placed in Philharmonic, Symphonic or Chamber Orchestra where they will explore advanced playing techniques, more difficult  music, and different styles of playing (fiddle music, pop tunes, even jazz styles using electric instruments!) 

There is also an orchestra program at Lewisville HS that you can continue in after your time at Durham!
